Basic guidelines for feeding

  • Use well known good brands
  • Never give your dog ruined or gone off food.
  • Dogs need fresh drinking water. Put a bowl in a corner and wash and refill it every day.
  • Never feed your dog from forks or other utensils as it could damage it's mouth.
  • Make sure your dog's food is at room temperature.
  • Throw out any canned, moist or dry food not eaten at the end of each  day.
  • Watch your dog's weight. A dog that is fed too much will become overweight and this can shorten its lifespan.
  • Never feed your dog brittle bones like chicken.
  • If your dog doesn't eat in 24 hours ring your vet, he may be ill.

Daily water requirements

A dog loses a lot of water every day doing his business,  also through panting. Dogs need water as much as humans, and can suffer  from severe dehydration and damage if they didn't have it for over 48 hours.

You should fill your dog's bowl with fresh water to the same level each day. If you notice that it is drinking more than usual, contact a vet, since this may indicate an internal disorder.

Keep your dogs bowl in the shade as warm water cannot cool a dog down and if it gets dirty I'm sure he would love a refill.
